BENGALURU: Over 3,000 residents gathered at the Sahakaranagar playground in the Byatarayanapura assembly constituency on Sunday for a successful mega e-khata mela. Initially set to conclude by 2 PM, the event has been extended to 8 PM on Monday due to the overwhelming response.
Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar kicked off the door-to-door distribution drive by handing out draft e-khatas to local households. He encouraged residents to collect their documents online or to visit the mela, stating, “Final e-khatas will be delivered to homes within 100 days. Please check your details and complete the process as soon as possible.” He also mentioned plans to conduct similar camps in other areas.
The event particularly attracted those facing challenges with online applications due to limited digital skills or time constraints. With the e-khata becoming mandatory for property registration, sales, or transfers from July 1 in Bengaluru, the turnout was impressive.
According to BBMP officials, the mela resulted in the generation of approximately 1,500 e-khatas in just one day, with each document processed in three to four hours. Out of the 1.8 lakh properties in Byatarayanapura, over 51,000 have received their final e-khatas.
!– PROMOSLOT_M — The BBMP’s e-khata initiative recently won the National e-Governance Gold Award (2024–25), having issued over 5.3 lakh final e-khatas out of a total of 25 lakh properties.
MLA Krishna Byre Gowda remarked, “Many still perceive the e-khata process as complicated or unnecessary. However, if 5 lakh people have successfully obtained theirs, so can others. We will continue the mela on Monday as well.”
Residents expressed their relief and satisfaction. “I arrived at 7:30 AM, and by 11 AM, my e-khata was ready,” shared Anil Kumar.
Others, like auto driver Ramalingam, underscored the importance of such all-inclusive events for those unable to navigate online systems independently. He noted, “We’ve struggled for months. Today, we got it done in three hours.”
On the first day, over 4,000 tokens were issued, with 1,679 processed and 677 final e-khatas handed out on the spot.
