CHANDIGARH: In a bid to monitor anti-social elements and enhance security ahead of Independence Day, the Chandigarh Police initiated a special campaign to verify tenants and domestic helpers throughout the city. Over a span of 15 days, various police teams conducted verifications for a total of 18,497 tenants and helpers.

During the campaign, officers in Sector 49 registered cases against two women employers in Sector 48 for not verifying their domestic helpers through the proper police channels. A total of 9,586 tenants and 8,911 servants were verified across the city’s 16 police stations.

This initiative was launched under the guidance of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur in light of rising security concerns as Independence Day approaches, necessitating increased vigilance.

Moreover, a recognition campaign honored outstanding performance, awarding 27 policemen from six police beats with ‘Class-1 certificates’ and cash prizes for their exemplary work. All recorded data from this campaign has been uploaded to the e-Beatbook app, with further instructions provided to police on the significance of tenant verification.

The verification drive commenced on July 5, with camps established in 16 sensitive and densely populated areas until July 20, 2025. These included Kaimbwala village, Sector 11, Sector 23, Dhanas Milk Colony, among others. Data indicates that Sector 36 police teams verified the highest number, with 1,823 total verifications including 1,196 tenants and 627 servants over the 15-day period. Other notable statistics include 1,780 verifications from Sector 19 police and 1,683 and 1,635 from Sector 26 and Sector 11, respectively.

In Industrial Area Phase-1, 1,519 individuals were verified, while Manimajra police checked 1,417. In contrast, Sarangpur and Mauli Jagran police only verified 299 and 424 individuals, respectively. Sector 3 police conducted 881 verifications, while IT Park police registered 954 checks. Among the police beats, Beat No. 91 from Police Station-36 excelled, followed by Beat No. 107 from Manimajra and Beat No. 47 from Industrial Area Phase-1.

SSP Kanwardeep Kaur urged residents to ensure timely police verification for their tenants and domestic helpers to avert potential issues, warning that failure to comply can lead to legal action.
