₹3,000 Crore Allocated for Western UP Townships

LUCKNOW: To address the growing need for affordable housing in western Uttar Pradesh, the state government has allocated nearly Rs3,000 crore. This funding will assist families in Agra, Mathura-Vrindavan, Moradabad, and Bagpat, as new townships equipped with modern amenities are set to be developed in these cities. One township will be established in Agra, Moradabad, and Bagpat, while Mathura, a popular religious site, will receive two township projects.

Approved in January, the funds are aimed at accumulating the necessary land for the township developments. Local housing development authorities submitted proposals to the housing department last year, requesting initial capital under the UP township policy to kickstart the greenfield townships.

The largest allocation of funds has been designated for Moradabad, which will see the acquisition of over a dozen villages to create a residential layout spanning 1,250 acres. The housing department and the Moradabad Development Authority will pool Rs1,373 crore for this effort.

“Ongoing discussions are taking place between local officials and farmers from the Didaura area. We are working to persuade farmers by highlighting the benefits of the land pooling policy,” an official stated.

In Mathura, townships will be developed in Chhata and Rahimpur, located about 40 km apart, with a total investment of Rs780 crore. In Agra, the locality of Rahankalan, situated between the city center and Etmadpur, has been chosen, with Rs750 crore allocated for land acquisition and township establishment. The remaining funds will cover land acquisition in Tatiri village, Bagpat.

Officials confirmed that infrastructure, including road networks, sewer systems, drinking water supply, and electricity, will be provided alongside the construction of both flats and row houses.
