NEW DELHI: Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, announced on Friday that India’s urban sector is poised to attract investments of around ₹10 lakh crore in the coming years to develop infrastructure.
He emphasized that housing will play a crucial part in this investment and urged the infrastructure industry to engage actively in this initiative.
Katikithala spoke at NAREDCO’s National Convention held in Delhi, highlighting that nearly ₹30 lakh crore has already been invested in urban infrastructure over the past decade, contributing to India’s rapid growth trajectory.
He also revealed that essential reforms will be introduced to strengthen RERA across several states to prevent delays in housing projects, particularly in the affordable housing sector, due to registration challenges.
Sudhansh Pant, Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, reported that around ₹25,000 crore worth of infrastructure projects have been initiated in the last 7–8 months in the state, with projects totaling ₹1 lakh crore expected to commence before 2026.
G. Hari Babu, President of NAREDCO, stressed the importance of increasing project registrations under RERA to boost housing momentum, noting that only 123 projects have been registered in Delhi recently, compared to nearly 5,000 in Tamil Nadu and about 6,000 in Maharashtra.
